East, West and Midtown Phillips neighborhoods make up the majority of the Phillips Community of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Phillips West occupies the western part of the former Phillips neighborhood, delineated by Chicago Avenue and 22nd Street. East Phillips boundaries follow Bloomington Avenue, East 24th Street, 17th Avenue South and East 22nd Street. Phillips Minneapolis Neighborhood Information
The neighborhood takes its name from Wendell Phillips, a 19th century abolitionist. The land in East, West & Midtown Phillips is a mix of residential, commercial and industrial zones. The area is home to several large employers, including Abbott Northwestern Hospital, Wells Fargo Mortgage, Allina Health Care Services and the newly redeveloped Sears building at Chicago Avenue and Lake Street. The East Phillips Community center is a hub for the neighborhoods and includes indoor basketball courts, a gymnasium, a swimming pool, a craft room, and a playground.
